Our Source and Treatment Process

Our extraction point and our treatment plant are located at the upper lake. Our water is extracted at this point and then treated. Water treatment removes contaminants from raw water and makes the water safe to drink for all our members. The method that is used during the treatment process at our plant is Screening of raw water, Pressurised Sand Filtration, UV treatment, Chlorination and Screening of the treated water before it enters the network

Carn Reservoir Site

After the treatment process our water is pumped up to our Carn Site which is about 1km away. The treated water is stored here at our Main Reservoir Site where we have two reservoirs and a secondary chlorination unit. All water supplied to our members is distributed from here into our network. Our Head Office is also located at this site.

Distribution

Our distribution network has approximately 220 kilometres of pipeline which covers an area of approximately eighty square kilometres. Our water is supplied by gravity into the Callow and Meelick distribution networks, and to two of our reservoir sites in Bohola: one at Toberlee and the other at Shanaghy. At these sites the water is monitored, chlorinated and supplied into part of the Bohola distribution network. At our Shanaghy Reservoir site we also pump water from our reservoir to our Derrycar Reservoir site where we have two reservoirs. The water here is also monitored, chlorinated and supplied into the rest of the Bohola distribution network. Throughout our distribution network we also have nine Booster Stations which pump water to our members.
